In only a few short months I’ve achieved the ultimate Internet “fantasy” of making a lot of money from a simple (almost primitive) web site that runs itself virtually on complete autopilot. Starting from scratch I banked over $51,351.94 my first 6 1/2 months online, just working part-time out of the corner of my living room.

Now today at age 31, I’ve gone on to earn over 7-figures.

How did I go from a standing start to banking mega profits?

To do that, what I think you really need are these inner secrets to mega internet success. This has nothing to do with search engines, pay-per-clicks. It doesn’t have anything to do with any of the tactical stuff. It’s all a lot of stuff that goes on in your head.

* Secret #1: Cheerful Expectancy *

One of my biggest mentors is Earl Nightingale. He passed away several years ago but you need to get everything he recorded at Nightingale.com. He has a program called “Lead The Field” and “The Strangest Secret.” Just listen to that thing over and over again. He talks about cheerful expectancy.

There’s a big difference between having expectancy versus hoping or wishing something is going to occur. When you have that cheerful expectancy, you know it’s going to occur. And that doesn’t just come from being ”Pollyannaish” or having rose-colored glasses. It comes from having knowledge. And you get that
knowledge from studying in your field whatever it is. It could be Internet marketing or it could be neurology. That means reading, studying and buying everything and absolutely immersing yourself in it.

I learned from Earl Nightingale that if you want to be an expert, you spend an hour a day reading on whatever subject that you’re interested in, that you want to be an expert on. So I said, “Well, what would happen if I read for three hours a day?”

I just started learning as much as I possibly could, and that knowledge gives you the confidence to know that you have that positive expectancy. Your expectations determine your results.

* Secret #2: Do one proactive thing a day *

You don’t need to do 100 things a day. Just get that one proactive thing a day. So each little brick builds a big wall for you. Trust me it’s easy to be overwhelmed with hundreds of tasks. You’re like, “Oh, we need to do e-zine ads and free-for-alls and pay-per-click search engines, and I need to do all this other stuff.” Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

But just relax and do one task a day.

Your action will create more and more and more action for you. You simply need to make a commitment to do one proactive thing a day no matter what. Even if you’re dead tired and worked a 14-hour day – come home and mail one letter or send out one joint venture proposal. I’m telling you – just these little tiny proactive things will have an immense impact.

Most everyone has heard of the ’80/20 rule’ or the Pareto Principle. It says that 20% of your actions produce 80% of your results, and the other way around. 80% of your work only creates 20% of your results.

So go back and look where your successes came from, and I know that they’re from a tiny little group of actions. So if you just get that one proactive thing a day (from the 20% group) that is going to propel you further, that’s going to bring you to where you want to be.

Make it a point to focus on those “20% activities”. In Stephen Covey’s famous work “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” he calls these activities “important but not urgent”.

One of my Apprentices, Peter Woodhead, from the UK is a perfect example of simply doing one proactive thing a day. A lot of Apprentices bolted out of the gate during our one year program but Peter was an Internet newbie and he also had a full time job so he was a bit slower getting started. However, he took my advice and simply managed to do one proactive thing every single day. No matter how big or how small. It could be writing one autoresponder
message or it might have been writing 50 headlines. No matter the day – Peter was moving ahead. And not surprisingly his project was completed before many of the other Apprentices were finished.

* Secret #3: Decision *

This is such a big point. A lot of people have so many problems with decision. That’s because they don’t like it because it cuts off other options. But frankly that’s exactly what you want. You want to cut off other options.

One of our top apprentices, Cindy Kappler, WebAdMagic.com, had no other option but to succeed because she quit her job. Now I’m not encouraging you to do that if you still have a real job but it does prove if you cut off your options, you’re much more motivated. Successful people make decisions quickly.

There’s a magic of attraction when you make your decision. However, when you’re hemming and hawing, you don’t experience this magic. I don’t want to get into too much woo-woo or metaphysical or spiritual stuff.

But there’s this magic of attraction. I can’t even explain it. When you set your mind up that you’re going to do this, all of a sudden, at the next dinner party you’re attending you meet somebody that can help you get to where you want to go. Is that luck or is that something else?

I don’t think it’s luck.

It’s like once the decision is made your mind is tuned into the solution and all kinds of ‘freaky’ coincidences and occurrences happen. And that brings me to another important point about decisions – fail quickly.

Don’t be afraid of failure. A lot of people are so afraid of screwing up, or making a mistake that they are forever frozen. Who the hell cares?
Screw up quickly! I screw up all the time. And you want to fail quickly.

That’s the great part about the Internet. You want to go out there and find out if your dumb idea is going to work right away. You can do it in days instead of months. Sometimes hours and if it doesn’t work, you move on. You say, “Next!”

Look, I know a lot of people who are working on their products for the last two, three, four years. Get the damned thing out! You just make it better as you go along.

InstantSalesLetters.com, our first product was not where it is now. We’ve added a ton of stuff to it and made it better. But I just wanted to see if the thing was going to sell.

It wasn’t complete and utter rubbish, as my British friends say, but it was enough that it made the point. It found out if there was a marketplace for it. So find out.

Some people like to go around at dinner parties and so on and say, “I’m writing a book. I’ve been writing a book for five years. I’m an author.”

Uh huh…

I can show you 6 different ways to have your book done in days. It’s a cop-out and complete B.S. Bottom line – make the decision to get the product out there. See what happens and fail quickly.

Now get out there and do it!

(c) Surefire Marketing, Inc.

Responsible parenting is very much on everyone’s mind these days. Everywhere you look there are articles being written about it, television shows and videos which aim to alert parents to potential dangers facing their children, and websites and home pages filled with useful and helpful tips. The concerned parent has never had as many tools or as much information available to them to protect their children.

But, what are your kids reading?

Yes, that’s right, reading. Ten years ago, I read an article which said that reading skills in America ranked among the lowest in the industrialized nations of the world. The printed word was no longer viable, the interactive game was in, and civilization as we knew it was over. LCD readout had eplaced ink on paper as far as kids were concerned, and there was nothing that anybody could do about it.

And then along came J.K. Rowling, Lemony Snicket, and a number of others and BANG — according to Publishers Weekly, the Children’s/Young Adult book market is the fastest growing market in publishing! Tens of millions of books per year are printed for the 6-15 year old market, encompassing thousands of titles and hundreds of different sorts of subject matter. Go to any local library and the odds are that you will find that the Children’s/Young Adult section is one of the largest there is. And, of course, as children grow older and their reading skills continue to improve, the entire world of adult literature becomes available to them.

This, of course, is not a bad thing — however, even though a child has the skills to read something, the responsible parent needs to ask themselves: But do I really want them reading that yet? Is it, for example, appropriate for 8 year olds who have the skills to do so to read The Diary of Anne Frank, even though in many cases the child may not have developed the emotional maturity to be able to handle some of the more intense and disturbing aspects of that work?

All too often, parents adopt an attitude that goes something like: Well, at least they are reading. Whatever it is, it’s better than them sitting in front of the television! Unfortunately, this is not always the case. It is important to remember that a child’s imagination is usually far more vibrant than an adult’s is and, depending on their age, the line between what is real and what is imaginary is less clear. Children can be affected by the words they read on a number of different levels, and will often times emulate the characters they meet in books — both in their attitudes and their behaviors. As a parent, it is important that the books you allow your child to read reflect the value system that you have tried to instill in them. Just as with the monitoring you do of what your child watches on television or what video games he plays or websites he visits, if you don’t want your child exposed to (or think that they are too young for) violence, sexual content, drug use, or anything else a Young Adult or Children’s book may contain, it is up to you to make sure that they aren’t until you feel they are ready.

As with every other part of the publishing industry, sales and sales alone drive what is published in the world of Children/Young Adult literature and the trend recently seems to be towards more sophisticated storylines which often times outline many of the less positive aspects of our culture and life. As a responsible parent, it is up to you to decide when you feel your children have reached the point in their emotional development where you believe they will be able to process this sort of information without harm.

The problem then becomes: How can I possibly read all the books my children want to read before they do? Makes you wish you had an extra set of eyes, right?

There are some resources out there to help guide you. But, most of them either give you a synopsis, which frequently lacks enough details to make a truly educated decision, or, they only do write-ups of the good books, which would be fine if we lived in a perfect world. But things are looking up! There is a website, launched in 2005, that reviews books (and movies) from a parent’s perspective. Each book is critiqued on positive and negative examples of character traits (i.e. honesty, compassion, responsibility, etc.); as well as providing specific examples of any negative areas of influence (i.e. drug usage, sexual content, violence, etc.). All of these examples will tell a parent, at a glance, if that book is appropriate for their particular child.

Instilling the love of reading in a child’s life is one of the most important and positive things you can do for them as a parent. Watching what your child reads, and allowing them to grow into the books you choose together, is one way to help ensure that the values you have worked so hard to teach your children are reinforced by something that they love to do!

Although craps is not a very complicated game, many people find themselves confused by its strange terminology and large numbers of betting options. This article focuses on the most recommended craps books available in the market including beginners books, strategy books for the advanced player and books that introduce the concept of dice control.

1) Craps for the Clueless: A Beginners Guide to Playing and Winning by John Patrick
As its name indicates, it provides basic information on playing craps. The book is written in simple language that makes the terminology easy to understand even if you have never seen a craps table before. In addition to the object of the game, Craps for the Clueless, reveals the winning secrets of professional gamblers.

John Patrick is a professional gambler, an author of many gaming guidebooks and the former host of the TV show “So You Wanna be a Gambler”, which was aired on national cable network for over a decade. According to Patrick, a successful gambling is a result of four essentials, he calls “The Big Four”, which are a proper use of the bankroll, knowledge of the game, money management and discipline.

2) Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos: How to Play Craps and Win by Frank Scoblete
This book supplies useful information for the newbie as well as for the experienced player. The book explains how the game can be beaten including explanations on which bets can lower the house edge and which bets should by avoided by the smart player.

Frank Scoblete is one of the top selling gambling authors in the US and the director of Golden Touch, which offers seminars on craps and blackjack. Other recommended books by Scoblete are “The Captains Craps Revolution”, “Forever Craps” and “Get the Edge at Craps”.

3) Craps: Take the Money and Run by Henry J. Tamburin
Take the Money and Run focuses on how to make fast profits from playing at casinos. In addition to introduction on the mechanics of the game and recommendations on best bets, the book offers the Increased Odds craps betting system and the Take the Money and Run discipline, which both promise to maximize the profits. The book also provides a special chapter on using the pass line bet for maximizing your profits. Take the Money and Run has special chapters on tournaments and new variations.

Dr. Henry J. Tamburin has been playing for over 25 years, and his betting system and discipline are based on his winning experiences.

4) Dice Control for Casino Craps by Yuri Kononenko.
This guide book offers an easy to understand introduction to the concept of dice control from the mathematical and mechanical points of view.

Other recommended books that teach how to gain advantage over the house by using dice control are Frank Scoblete’s “Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution” and “Craps Underground: The Inside Story of How Dice Controllers are Winning Millions from the Casinos”, which offers a fascinating inside look on the game system.

Conclusion:
Unlike poker or blackjack, this game is not very popular, but in that lies the biggest opportunity. The casinos focus on getting a profit from the popular games. Take advantage of this, and make your profit at this game instead.

With vacation season upon us, it’s time to make those fun getaway plans for the whole family, including your furry best friend. We’re all keeping an eye on our finances these days and looking for ways to stretch our dollars. It can be a bit more challenging to make pet travel more economical when considering transportation and places to stay, so here are a few helpful hints for the budget-conscious.Pet Friendly TransportationTraveling in your own vehicle is obviously the most affordable way to go, and you don’t even have to venture very far from home to find a great pet friendly vacation spot to save on both gas and time. If traveling in your own vehicle (or a rental) is absolutely out of the question, unfortunately buses and trains do not allow you to bring your pet aboard. Get ready to fly the friendly skies in order to get to your destination with Fido. Most major airlines allow pets either carried on or checked for below-the-cabin travel. Your cheapest options for flying are AirTran ($69 one way), Southwest ($75 one way), or JetBlue, Spirit, and US Airways (each of them charge $100 one way). Delta and United come in with more pricey pet fare fees. Delta ($125 carried on/$200 checked one way) and United ($125 carried on/$250 checked one way).Pet Friendly HotelsLuckily, more and more hotels, motels, B&Bs;, vacation rentals and even condos are allowing us pet lovers to bring our four-legged family members with us. When trying to get more bang for your buck on the vacation front, it’s very important to do your research on where you will be able to stay and what their current rates are for pets.A great alternative for many families with pets is a vacation rental, condo, or cabin. These properties tend to have lower weekly rates when compared to the daily charges of hotels and motels, and it can be more like a “home away from home” for you and your pet. You can save even more money by bringing your own groceries and food for the duration, rather than eating out for every meal.If you’re looking at pet friendly hotels, there are some with very reasonable fees and others that are a little harder on the ole’ bank account. Some great chains with low rates AND low pet fees include: Best Western, Comfort Inn & Comfort Suites, Doubletree, Econo Lodge, Embassy Suites, Quality Inn, and Mariott Hotels & Resorts. This is definitely not an exhaustive list and you can certainly find a slew of pet friendly hotels and properties with low cost fees online.Take very special care to abide by the rules of the property you’re staying in and make sure dear Fido is properly groomed and de-flead before you travel…or it may cost you! Some places do not allow pets on the furniture or in the beds. It’s always best to bring their pet bed as well as something to cover the furniture with for good measure. If Fido leaves behind a mess of pet hair and fleas, you may be charged a hefty cleaning fee – not to mention showing a complete disregard for good pet etiquette when staying at vacation rentals.Pet Friendly ActivitiesLet’s face it. We want to spoil our pets just as much as we want to spoil our family and friends. When traveling to a new and exciting place, you’re likely to find some really cool pet friendly spots like grooming boutiques and shops filled with toys and clothes just for them. If you’re looking to cut back, why not give your pet the best gift of all? You know Fido would ask you to take him on more walks if he could. Plan ahead and locate dog parks, walking areas, and hiking trails that are available on your trip. These are free and fun activities that everyone can enjoy and bond you all even closer to your beloved furry friend. (Don’t forget to prepare for these outdoor adventures!). If you’ve opted to vacation at a rental property, you’ll most likely have these activities right at your doorstep: the beach, the lake, the mountains, the woods, etc. Make the most of your natural surroundings.Just because you’re tightening your wallet doesn’t mean you have to cut back on family fun!

• First of all organize everything properly. Start by making a family group sheet for each member of your family. Remember you have to document every piece of information that you discover about your ancestors. You can also use a genealogy software program that can help you in storing your family’s data in a more convenient way.
• Prepare some good research Questions. They can be simple personal questions apart from the general ones that include information on things like birth, marriage and death. Your questions should also uncover information on immigration, religion, occupation, adoption, preferred languages. You can also listen to some family stories.
• Look for baby books and wedding albums.
Also it sheds light on the various family tree website options that you can choose from.Scout for divorce papers, awards degrees, diplomas, funeral cards, school yearbooks, medical records, military service records and employment records. • Also look for marriage certificates and licenses. You can track witnesses who may also provide you with some important pieces of information.
• Check out the local newspapers for obituary notices. They provide you with a treasure of knowledge. A look at an obituary can provide you a lot of information on the person as well as his or her friends and family.
Apart from that you can also look for the records on the internet. They are easily available on a lot of websites. Most of them will offer those records for free, while the others will ask for a subscription.
• The key to make a good family tree is not to trust any information blindly. You should double check everything, so there is not any problem. The information you use should be authentic and reliable or else it can spoil all your hard work and will result in a wrong family tree.

The term ‘homeschooling’ basically refers to the process in which
one or more children of not more than 2 families are instructed by
parents or legal guardians, or a member of either household. The
laws that define homeschooling vary from State to State. The legal
requirements for establishing a homeschool also vary with the
State.

For most children, the actual process of learning begins much
before school. Many children already know their alphabets, the
names of animals, colors and other more complicated stuff before
they reach school. This is mostly due to the hard work of a member
of the family who has taken the time to teach the child.
Homeschooling is just a natural progression from here. Instead of
sending their children to a public school, parents make their own
curriculum and teach their children in ways that best suit the
child. This is homeschooling, in its most simplistic form.

Before you decide to go in for homeschooling, there are certain
important matters for consideration. First off, meet with parents
of other homeschoolers. Find out the pros and cons of
homeschooling. Then ask yourself why you would want to adopt this
method. This is a very important aspect, as the success of the
program depends on the clarity and sincerity of your purpose.

Next, it is time to consider the expenses of homeschooling. It may
cost anywhere between a few hundred dollars to a few thousand
every year. More importantly, you are also effectively shutting
out any job opportunity for one of the parents. It is only obvious
that one parent will have to stay at home full time to manage the
homeschool. A home-based business however is a great alternative.

Are you qualified to take on homeschooling for your children?
Teaching is a continuation of your own learning process. With the
advent of the internet, information is aplenty. There are various
books and resources for those interested in homeschooling. Go
through the various methods of homeschooling and choose one that
is most suited to you. It helps if you know what kind of learning
style your child has. Also, find out what your child feels about
homeschooling before you start.

Every state has its own laws regarding homeschooling. For
instance, in North Carolina, you must first file a ‘Notice of
Intent’ to start a home school. In this you have to mention if the
school is a ‘Private church’ school or a ‘qualified non-public
school’. The persons providing the education are required to have
at least a high school diploma. You have to maintain an annual
record of the child’s attendance and disease immunization. Every
year, the child is required to undergo a standardized test. Each
student attending the eleventh grade has to take a nationally
standardized test. These are the requirements in North Carolina,
but it is enough to give you a good idea of what homeschooling
entails.

Homeschooling may seem like a lot of fun and freedom from the
outside. However, things are seldom as simple as they seem.
Homeschooling is a lot of added responsibility and hard work. But,
if successful, it will forge a strong bond of love and respect
between parent and child, while providing your child with the best
form of education he needs.

Family pets bring so much joy to the mother and father and especially the children! Dogs and cats are very precious members of the family and bring lots of joy and laughter to family life. Pet owners can do their part to help conserve the environment by making intelligent, informed and environmentally friendly decisions regarding their pet care.

For pet owners desiring to make their fun-loving dog or calming cat more green, read the following suggestions.

(1) If you and your family do not already own a pet, strongly consider adopting a sweet dog or cat from an animal shelter or humane society. You will be saving the animal’s life and they will be eternally grateful for it. There are thousands of homeless dogs and cats in your country who desperately need caring and loving people to rescue them. These adorable dogs and cats are usually free to a good home.

If you and your family have your heart set on finding a purebred dog or cat from a breeder, research any potential pet breeder very carefully. Find out how the breeders raise their puppies or kittens. Find out how much space they receive to live, play and exercise, how much exercise they receive, what food they eat and what veterinary care and vaccines they have received.

(2) Neuter or spay your cat or dog.
There is a troubling problem where animals are not being spayed or neutered and thousands of homeless dogs and cats are left to fend for themselves. When you neuter or spay your dog or cat, your animal will live a healthier and longer life and have a reduced risk of developing ovarian and uterine cancer in females and testicular cancer and prostate disease in males.

(3) Purchase good quality organic food for your dog or cat.
Many typical brands of pet foods contain alarming ingredients, including animal by-products, animal wastes, and ingredients that come from diseased or dying animals. Make sure that the pet food that you buy your cat or dog contains meat that is FDA-certified and good quality.

Support your cat or dog’s proper nutrition by purchasing quality food. Think about buying pet food that is organic and natural. Certified organic pet food must meet high quality standards and must not contain any pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, artificial ingredients or genetically modified ingredients.

(4) Utilize natural pet care products and cleaning products.

Avoid using any pet shampoo or grooming product that contains toxic chemicals. Use natural pet care products instead, that are environmentally-friendly and chemical free.

Avoid using pet cleaning products and overall household cleaning products that contain toxic ingredients. Green pet supply companies are now manufacturing cleaning products to use when your pet has an accident that are healthy for the environment.

(5) Purchase environmentally-friendly, organic pet toys and gifts.

a) Choose toys made from organic cotton or hemp, which are chemical-free.

b) Buy your cat or dog a new, natural hemp collar, which is biodegradable.

c) Purchase a comfortable doggie or kitty bed that is designed with organic materials and is free of toxic chemicals. Find one that has an easy-to-wash cover.

There are so many techniques and possibilities to this new technology that no two videos will be exactly alike!
Many families have already traced their genealogy and usually have very organized and visually attractive family trees. But by putting their family trees in the form of a digital video they can bring those dry facts and static photographs to life.
There are dozens of options when you decide to bring your family tree to life. Most families have dozens if not hundreds of photographs of their families, some nearly a century old, that are lying around loose or confined to photo albums. Why not bring some of those photos out of storage to enliven your family video?
When you are planning your family tree digital video you will probably want to include a soundtrack of some sort and some sound effects.
Additionally, many different pieces of furniture for dogs exist, so you can be sure that you will find one that matches your home well! Family Tree Maker Software – Is it Worth the Expense?

Family tree maker software can be of enormous help in your quest to unravel the family past and share your findings with others. Different versions vary in price and features and one of the first decisions any family tree researcher will have to face is whether to invest in the latest and greatest paid software or go with one of the cheaper of even free options. Here are some pros and cons of choosing to invest in one of those programs. Family Tree Outline – How to Present Your Family Tree in the Best Possible Way

You have the research material to build your family tree but have trouble organizing it all in a coherent visual presentation? If that’s the case, your best bet is to take a look at various family tree outlines and decide which one best serves your needs. There is no universal one size fits all formula: family trees can be very varied, ranging from highly skewed to highly dense to very deep. Here are some possible outline formats in a broad categorization.Choose a few songs, perhaps Aunt Sophie’s favorite for her brief appearance or a popular wedding song if you choose to make part of the video a succession of various wedding pictures or videos.
Speaking of videos, it is quite simple and inexpensive to convert your family movies to digital format so you can include parts of them in your family video. Whether your movies are on the old celluloid film, 8mm cassette tapes or other media you can convert them to digital. Some people like to do this themselves but if you’re on a budget it is less expensive to let a professional do the work. You can include snippets of the digital video in your family tree; remember that while Karen’s first recital was a proud moment for you, her final bow or a few seconds of her best performance will be enough to keep your family tree digital video interesting but not monotonous.
Interspersing still photos with videos will keep the pace interesting but you also might want to include a few documents.
Johnny’s college diploma, Grandma’s nursing certificate from the 1920′s or your own marriage license will give more variety to your video and add interesting visual texture.
Music is another important aspect you should consider when planning your family video. Still photos, documents or old silent family movies will all be more interesting when you choose appropriate music to showcase them. You can choose your own favorites or a song preferred by the person being shown. When a situation like that occurs you have to take advantage of it because its the perfect opportunity for a family fun night.

For this particular family fun night you are putting away the cell phones, the PDAs, and the hand held video game systems. You are also turning off the computer, the video game consoles, and dare we say, hiding the Wii remotes. GASP!

You are also staying home for this kinfolk rompyou can go out anytime. Furthermore, you are going to try to keep the cost of this family fun night extremely low and the planning to a minimum. Although, we do admit a few of these activities could be enhanced with a few bucks and a couple minutes of planning.

Below are 10 ideas for your family to try during their fun night together.

Enough about the children and their needs. Forget the elderlies for a moment. Never mind the friends and the favours owed. What about you? I’ve compiled a few ideas for garden studio uses for the grown ups, without apology for selfishness, to follow my garden room ideas for growing teenagers. Pictureka Flipper Provides a Fun Experience For Family Game Night

The Pictureka Flipper board game is a new board game offered for 2009 that is anything but boring. For those who like the original, you will most certainly like this one more as it takes the benefits of the first game and super sizes them in this one. Top Five Fun Winter Weekend Family Activities & Ideas

Winter can be a challenging season when it comes to thinking of things to do for the entertainment of families, kids need to get out and burn that energy off yet the seasonal weather is not exactly cooperative for hours of outside play. However there are many options for getting kids out of the house, from a trip out to a fun place for supper, to a romp in the snow. But what about winter weekends with the family? What kinds of things are there to do that everyone will enjoy this time of year? Hen Night Venue Ideas

Usually, a hen’s party is organised just one week before the decided wedding date, and mostly, a hen’s party is held in the evening. The participants of the party are served with delicious dinners while some vibrant and lively activities are also arranged for them to make the evening a memorable evening of their lives.Remember that the key to this type of occasion is having great time, not stubbornly adhering to some plan. After all, its called family fun night not because of what youre doing but who youre doing it with.

* Dinner – If you choose the right dish, dinner can definitely be a fun family activity. For instance, even young kids can put toppings on a pizza. To make it really fun, divide the pizza up when its still dough and let everyone top their own slices. The same can be done for cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Grocery stores stock easy, ready-to-bake dough for all the aforementioned treats.

* Hollywood – Were not talking about the latest and greatest Hollywood animated flick, we talking about the classics.
Show them a movie so old it was made before you were even born. If you can convince your kids that watching a black and white flick wont damage their eye sight, go even further back in the annuals of Hollywood (Chaplin anyone?). Show them what moviemaking was like before computers.

* Movie Night – Take a stroll down memory lane by breaking out the family videos, films, and photographsthe older the images the better (the funnier). If you can plan ahead, procure some fascinating (funny) images from the grandparents. The evening should end with your wedding video. Kids eat that stuff up, but please dont show them the part where I dance with Aunt Martha.

* No Bored Games – Dont just play a board game, take one and make it your own. Try adding goofy rules or playing the game as fast as possible. Have you ever played Speed Monopoly or Speed Clue? Combine two board games into one or add playing cards to a game that doesnt normally use them. If youre feeling really adventurous, create your own board game. I once created Hemorrhagic Fever: The Game but it didnt go over very well.

* Music Sharing – This idea is particular poignant if you have a turntable. Nonetheless, spend the evening not just listening to music but listening to everyones music. Give everyone in the family a chance to play their favorite songs. This not only exposes your children to some of the music you used to rock out too but it also gives you insight into what kind of music your children are listening too. Of course this might be a problem if your favorite genre of music is gangsta rap.

* American Idol – If your family likes to sing and dance (and what family doesnt) hold your very own American Idol-type competition. Those with a voice like sandpaper can play the parts of Simon and Randy or you can all take turns judging. If you dont have a karaoke machine, just sing along with the song or perform a cappella. Also, dont forget to dress up. American Idols have to look the part too.

* Star Gazing – If you live out in the sticks (away from cities and their light pollution) and the sky is clear, nothing beats lying on the grass and staring up at the stars. This is not only a fun activity but its also educational. Do a little research prior to the evening so you can dazzle your kids with your knowledge of the constellations and the nights sky.

* Construction – Spend the night building something. Chances are good your kids have Legos or Lincoln Logs in their rooms. If your house happens to be Lego-less you can always buy some (you can get a lot of Legos with the money you would have spent on going out to the movies). Or just scour your recycling bin for empty boxes, cardboard tubes, and other things that can be stacked and fastened together.

* Charades – This is a solid activity and one that can be tailored for children of any age. To add a new spin on the classic game try adding a themeDisney, sports, family members, 19th century German operas. Mix the game up by allowing the use of just one arm, blindfolding the actor, or having two people act out the same charade instead of one. Whatever you do, make sure you try speed charades.

* Play – Perhaps not appropriate for tweens or teens (although it would still be incredibly fun) but the family can always spend the night just playing. You can play cops and robbers, spacemen and aliens, or even pirates. If youre looking for a game try one of the classics like tag or hide-and-seek. It doesnt really matter what you play as long as youre using your imagination, laughing, and having loads of fun.
